Aluminium Joinery — answers to the questions we hear most from architects, partners and homeowners.
Standard aluminum is a highly conductive metal — without modification, it transfers heat freely from outside to inside, driving energy loss in winter and heat gain in summer. A thermal break solves this by inserting a continuous polyamide barrier between the inner and outer shells of the aluminum frame, eliminating the metal-to-metal heat path. All Optimedia aluminum windows are thermal-break only — cold-bridge (non-broken) aluminum does not meet modern energy performance standards and is not offered in the range.
OptiFusion (70mm, Uw ≥ 0.90 W/m²K / U-factor ≈ 0.158 BTU/hr·ft²·°F,) is the mid-range thermally-broken aluminum standard — concealed hardware, minimalist slim profile with hidden sash options and hidden handle variants all whilst hurricane-tested. For the most severe wind and water exposure — coastal zones, high-rise facades — OptiPro (80mm, Uw ≥ 0.71 W/m²K / U-factor ≈ 0.125 BTU/hr·ft²·°F) delivers the highest air, water, and wind performance in the range. OptiPro Plus (77mm, Uw ≥ 0.88 W/m²K / U-factor ≈ 0.155 BTU/hr·ft²·°F, max glazing 72mm, Structurally tested to AW-AAMA standards, CE-certified Air Class 4 / Water E900–E1950 / Wind C5) is the premium flagship — three insulation variants on-demand, RC3-N burglar-resistance compatibility (full RC3 classification requires the window + hardware + Optimedia-certified security glass certified as a cascading system — currently in verification with the supplier), the reference specification for luxury residential and high-spec custom homes. OptiPro Plus also comes with a Class 3 powder coating also known as an AAMA2605 coating as standard, regardless of the chosen colour of finish.
The OptiHorizon Plus is our most minimalist slider. With 1 in. wide reinforced interlocks, pocket options and frames that can be embedded into the neighbouring walls, up to a 94% glass surface coverage can be achieved. Couple this with motorization options for care free operation and open corner configurations and you will find that no project is too difficult for this system. Despite this, minimalism does not mean you have to sacrifice on excellent thermal performances. The system achieves a Uw ≥ 0.9 W/m²K in its vast openings or an NFRC-certified U-factor ≥ 0.26 BTU/hr·ft²·°F coupling its seamless connection to the exterior world with unbeaten interior comfort.
The OptiFusion aluminum family has been hurricane-certified according to the Florida Building Code requirements and carries CE certifications for Water E1950 and Wind Class C5 — the structural engineering baseline for severe weather resistance. The aluminum frame's inherent rigidity and dimensional stability at extreme temperatures make it significantly more reliable than PVC in sustained heat or high-wind exposure. For projects in Florida HVHZ or requiring specific Florida Building Code Product Approval, contact Optimedia for project-specific certified specifications.
Tilt-and-turn is the standard European window operation mechanism. A single handle controls two distinct modes: tilt (top-of-sash tilts inward 10–15° for secure, draft-free ventilation — the window cannot be pushed fully open from outside) and turn (sash swings fully inward for cleaning, maximum ventilation, and emergency egress). Beyond the dual-mode operation, tilt-and-turn hardware engages a multi-point locking system — multiple locking points around the perimeter of the sash, activated simultaneously by a single handle rotation — for a level of security beyond what a single-point latch on a typical US single-hung or casement window provides. US windows typically use outswing casements or double-hung sash — neither offers the tilt mode's combination of secure ventilation and inward cleaning access, nor the same multi-point locking security. All Optimedia window series are configured as a tilt-and-turn as standard. Q6: Are tilt-and-turn windows compatible with interior blinds? To address this practical issue, Optimedia certified a flush handle option for its OptiFusion and OptiPro Aluminum series windows. The handle option sits flush into the side of the sash disappearing into the profile itself. It allows for the same dual mode operations but does not protrude inside of the home ensuring that no additional consideration with regards to blind positioning is needed. Q7: Are AAMA2605 coatings available for Optimedia’s Aluminum seriesWhat acoustic ratings do Optimedia windows hold for the US market? All of Optimedia’s Aluminum series can be quoted under AAMA2605 conditions. Whilst the standard coating level for the base OptiFusion and OptiPro is AAMA2604, an advantage of the OptiPro Plus and OptiFusion Heritage series is that an AAMA2605 coating is quoted as standard for all projects, irrespective of the chosen colour or texture. No additional lead times are incurred.
